This mix has been gestating for decades.<\/p>\n\n
A year ago, I was rooting around my bins of CDs, gathering music I wanted to use in a future mix on Soundwave. There was a herculean amount of labor finding those CDs. It meant going into the garage, pulling out 75-100 lbs bins of CDs, and sorting through every CD to find what I needed. I have literally put sweat into this mix.<\/p>\n\n
The mix features songs I\u2019ve played many years ago when I deejayed at WMFO<\/a>. From there I\u2019d segue from one cluster of songs to the next. I know from experience that these songs slot together like sonic LEGOS. Okay, maybe not the most elegant analogy, but you get the idea.<\/p>\n\n These songs mean things to me.<\/p>\n\n Take Coil<\/a>, for example. When Love\u2019s Secret Domain<\/a><\/em> was released, my fellow deejays at WMFO loved the album. I didn\u2019t get it. But I had spent money on the CD, so I gave the album a few listens. And after a while, I came to see the genius in that album and became a fan of Coil.<\/p>\n\n I discovered C-Schulz<\/a> on the Extreme Records<\/a>\u2019 X-X Section<\/a><\/em> compilation album in the stacks of new CDs in the main studio at WMFO. I\u2019d play \u201cFir\u201d on repeat on my Discman and lose myself in itself Bladerunnerish beauty.<\/p>\n\n Z\u2019EV<\/a>, rest in peace. He left us five years ago, and we\u2019ll not see his like again. I have RE\/SEARCH<\/a> to thank for turning me onto Z\u2019EV and his percussive explorations of sound.<\/p>\n\n I\u2019m a fan of Justin Broadrick<\/a> and Kevin Martin<\/a>. When they collaborated on Techno Animal<\/a>, it was everything I had hoped for. \u201cThe Dream Forger\u201d has particular significance to me for getting me through one long, heartbroken night. Listen to Justin\u2019s mix for Soundwave here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n My buddy Steven Howard introduced me to Mono Pause<\/a> and many other great bands from the fantastic America The Beautiful<\/a><\/em> compilation album from RRRecords<\/a>. Listen to Steven\u2019s mix four Soundwave here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n Steven \u201cJesse\u201d Bernstein<\/a> was another WMFO find. There are many fantastic tracks from his Prison<\/a><\/em> album, \u201cMore Noise Please\u201d is the one that gets me all blubbery contemplating alienation in what sometimes seems like a madhouse of a world.<\/p>\n\n The Anti Group<\/a>\u2019s \u201cA.A.A.A. (Accelerated Audio Alpha Activity)\u201d from the Total \u2013 Volume One<\/a><\/em> compilation album never fails to creep me out even after all these decades.<\/p>\n\n :Zoviet*France:<\/a> is much loved, and \u201cVoice Print Identification\u201d is perhaps the song I love most from their wonderful and extensive catalog. I encourage you to listen to Zoviet\u2019s A Duck in a Tree<\/a> show.<\/p>\n\n Pornosect<\/a> also appeared on Total \u2013 Volume One<\/em> album, and like \u201cA.A.A.A. (Accelerated Audio Alpha Activity)\u201d; I still find \u201cMedia Termination\u201d just as unsettling after all this time.<\/p>\n\n I hope you enjoy today\u2019s show.<\/p>\n\n I discovered that when my CDs were in storage, nearly all the songs featured in today\u2019s mix are no longer published.
