solipsistic NATION<\/b> studios are located in beautiful San Diego but today I wish I was in Seattle so I could be at this years Decibel Festival<\/a>. The Decibel Festival has been taking place in Seattle since 2003 and this year\u2019s festival features legends like Carl Craig<\/a> and newcomers like Mux Mool<\/a>. But if I can\u2019t go to the Decibel Festival I\u2019ll bring the festival to me and have Decibel\u2019s founder Sean Horton as a guest on today\u2019s show to give us a tour of this year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n

On today\u2019s show I\u2019ll also keep my experimental electronic music street cred by also having Tristan Perich<\/a> join us on today\u2019s show. Six years ago Tristan released 1-Bit Music<\/a><\/i>, which was an electronic circuit assembled inside a CD case with a headphone jack. The device played 40 minutes of low-fi 1-bit electronic music, the lowest possible digital presentation of audio. Tristan recently released 1-Bit Symphony<\/a><\/i>, and like 1-Bit Music<\/i> it is also housed in a CD jewel case. 1-Bit Symphony<\/i> is not a recording in the traditional sense; it literally performs its music when turned on.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also talk with Karina van Heck<\/a>. Karina is an artist form the Netherlands. Her current piece, which are wearable body speakers<\/a>, is a commentary and criticism on the use of invasive technologies, such as X-rays and small cameras used by the medical industry to probe the human body.<\/p>\n

Nick Pittsinger, who records an performs under the name Shamantis<\/a>, recently gained notoriety (or popularity depending on how see things) by slowing down Justin Bieber<\/a>\u2018s \u201cU Smile\u201d 800%. Slowing down a track that dramatically can reveal hidden dimensions in music. And if you\u2019ve already heard the original song it\u2019s impossible not to search for familiar elements in the track. There\u2019s no way to hear the glacial \u201cU Smile\u201d as a song in it\u2019s own right without thinking of the original.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also talk with Leif Inge<\/a>, who is probably the originator or time-stretched music with 9 Beet Stretch<\/a><\/i> which is Beethoven\u2019s 9th symphony slowed down to a 24 hour listening experience. I first heard 9 Beet Stretch<\/i> a few years ago on the wonderful Radiolab<\/a> program. 9 Beet Stretch<\/i> had a profound effect on me on how music could be listened to and the fluid nature of time so it\u2019s a pleasure to have Leif on today\u2019s show.<\/p>\n
