This week\u2019s show is inspired by the Headphone Commute<\/a> blog. I\u2019ve always liked that idea, the headphone commute. Take solipsistic NATION<\/b>, for example. You might listen to this show at home, in your car, maybe even at work. But most likely you\u2019re listening to this show on the ubiquitous white Apple earbuds. That kind of listening experience is more insular and intimate than just listening to solipsistic NATION<\/b> in your car or over your speakers. It\u2019s my job to make it a rewarding listening experience.I decided to run with theme of the headphone experience by kicking off this week\u2019s solipsistic NATION<\/b> with a mix of psychedelic tinged music.<\/p>\n

We begin with \u201cIntro\u201d from the Strange Fruit Project<\/a>\u2018s 2006 album, The Healing<\/a><\/i>. The Healing<\/i> is a great album and it was a shame to pick such a short track from the Strange Fruit Project but aside from really liking \u201cIntro,\u201d it also fits the theme of this week\u2019s show and segued nicely into DJ Food<\/a>\u2018s \u201cExtract From Stolen Moments\u201d from his album One Man\u2019s Weird Is Another Man\u2019s World<\/a><\/i>. And that takes us to Ras G<\/a>\u2018s \u201cReturn From the Great Unknown\u201d from his album, Brotha From Anotha Planet<\/a><\/i>. From there this week\u2019s show goes into all sorts of different directions.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll also hear a track from KiloWatts<\/a>. That was a tough one to call because KiloWatts currently has two new album out (Undercurrent<\/a><\/i> and Six Silicates<\/a><\/i>) but I decided to play \u201cTwo Parts\u201d from his Ground State<\/a><\/i> album. KiloWatts we\u2019ll be back on solipsistic NATION<\/b> next month with a special live set<\/a>. If you can\u2019t wait until then you can listen<\/a> to the February 15th, 2008 edition of solipsistic NATION<\/b> featuring my interview with Evan Marc<\/a> of Native State Records<\/a>. We played select tracks from Native State Records and of course we had to play Kilowatts because he\u2019s so great!<\/p>\n

Speaking of Evan, up next is Evan Bluetech with \u201cAnother Bridge Burning\u201d from his new EP, Call Of The Wild<\/a><\/i>. Again, another tough one because Evan has recently been releasing a bunch of awesome music. You also might want to hear<\/a> my interview with Evan about his new label, Somnia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There are, of course, more great tunes on this week\u2019s headphone experience. Again, I really like the idea of music heard over headphones as being very intimate. But it\u2019s also like a soundtrack to your life. I remember a day, years ago, when I was waiting for the subway in downtown Boston. It was night, the middle of the summer, and the air was still and the humidity stifling. Yet the music I was hearing over my headphones transformed my environment to a the set of a sultry French New Wave movie. Let me know if you\u2019ve had similar experiences.<\/p>\n
