Here\u2019s something you don\u2019t know about me: I hate talking over the songs I play on solipsistic NATION<\/b>. On the other hand, I think talking over music is pretty useful because it has less impact on the flow of the show. It\u2019s a dilemma. Take this week\u2019s show.<\/p>\n
Once a month on solipsistic NATION<\/b> I showcase a record label that is putting out amazing releases that you<\/i> need to know about. Recent shows<\/a> have featured n5MD<\/a>, Dragon\u2019s Eye Recordings<\/a> and Summer Rain Recordings<\/a>. On this edition of solipsistic NATION<\/b> we\u2019ll talk with Mike Paradinas (AKA \u03bc-Ziq), the founder of Planet \u03bc Records and play select tracks from his label. And therein lies the problem.<\/p>\n Planet \u03bc began as a subsidiary of Virgin Records<\/a> but in 1998 Mike Paradinas made Planet \u03bc independent of Virgin and Astralwerks<\/a>. In the last 10 years Mike has released great albums from a roster<\/a> of amazing artists like Luke Vibert<\/a>, Benga<\/a>, Mary Anne Hobbs<\/a> and much more. There\u2019s no way I can capture the scope of Planet \u03bc in an hour-long show. All I can do is paint a picture for you with music but only in the broadest strokes. That leaves me with the unenviable task of choosing which tracks we\u2019ll have to talk over.<\/p>\n For example, I love Luke Vibert\u2019s \u201cHomewerk.\u201d The repeating riff in \u201cHomewerk\u201d is a classic electronica theme and has been sampled many times. How can I talk over that. And then there\u2019s \u201cMeinheld\u201d by \u03bc-Ziq. He\u2019s my guest. That\u2019s be just plain rude to talk over his track. I love, love, love<\/i> just about everything Venetian Snares<\/a> puts out and it would cause me physical pain to talk over \u201cTwirl.\u201d But as I said, I would rather talk with Mike over the music than not play music at all. Plus, that\u2019s an extra track you otherwise would not have heard.<\/p>\n I\u2019m really excited that Mike is on today\u2019s show. Planet \u03bc consistently puts out amazing releases and has garnered a lot of respect from people who love great music. A fan base has been created around Planet \u03bc because of the label\u2019s roster of talent and phenomenal albums.
