This week on solipsistic NATION<\/b> we have a special mix from Spectraliquid<\/a> recording artist, Blackfilm<\/a>!<\/p>\n

As usual I first heard about Blackfim through HC\u2019s Headphone Commute<\/a> blog. HC and I have similiar taste in music but HC always seems to be one step ahead of me in finding albums that are spectacular. HC praised Blackfilm\u2019s self-titled CD<\/a> on Spectraliquid. My curiosity was already aroused but when HC said that Blackfilm defibrillates Amon Tobin<\/a>\u2018s pioneering sound I knew I had to hear Blackfilm\u2019s album.<\/p>\n

Like Amon Tobin, Blackfilm is haunting, menacing and beautiful. But Blackfilm\u2019s music is also unique. He has an arcane sound that I don\u2019t know exactly how to describe. It\u2019s spooky, eldritch, almost as if Blackfilm had set out to score music for the Kafkaesque stop-motion animated films of the Brothers Quay<\/a>. Let me quote HC quoting from Emmanuel Top<\/a>\u2018s Turkish Bazaar<\/a><\/i> single: \u201cThe music was new, black, polished chrome and came over the summer like liquid night.\u201d Once Blackfilm\u2019s music is inside your head it will infect you like a virus and you will never<\/i> want to be cured.<\/p>\n
